There are two basic types of receipt printers. The two main choices are dot-matrix receipt printers and thermal receipt printers. A dot matrix receipt printer is very reliable and has low operating costs although they are noisier than thermal printers. A thermal receipt printer uses special heat sensitive ribbons or paper, create images instead of dots, print faster and are quieter and have fewer moving components. Thermal printers are more expensive to operate due to the special ribbons and they cannot print on multi-part forms.
There are many large, name-brand manufacturers who offer receipt printer options. IBM, Epson, Star, and more. Here are a few of the most popular models.
- Epson's TM-T88111 Thermal Printer: It has all the benefits of the earlier TM—T8811 (high quality and reliability) but with faster receipt printing capabilities. Bundled with a power supply for ease of configuration and convenience. Perfect solution for high-volume retail and hospitality establishments that require fast and quiet printing.
- Hecon C-56 Receipt Printer: A perfect solution for a Kiosk or other unattended application. The benefits of an autocutter and presenter without the expense. Handles paper widths from 58-60 mm, integral front panel chute makes mounting and integration simple.
- VeriFone's Thermal Receipt Printer: Provides detailed and easy to read customer receipts. They ship with VeriFone's payment systems to expand range of payment options. Their printers offer fast, reliable, and flexible service.
- Star's TSP600 series printers: Offer quiet and compact thermal POS and receipt printers that feature universal external power supplies, ‘drop-in and print' paper loading, internal paper roll storage, 60 million lines mcbf reliability and no ribbon required.
There are many things to consider before purchasing your receipt printer. Although price is always one of the factors you don't want to sacrifice things such as speed and quality to save a buck. You get what you pay for holds sway here. When your customers are waiting to complete their purchase and get their receipt speed is all that matters.
Consider the following factors before making your decision:
